Update

It has been a while since I posted on here but I'm back and with some great pictures to show my progress so far !(bottom of the post). Prom is only a few weeks away and although I have not lost the 50lbs I originally wanted to loose for the big event, I am confident in achieving my goals for August.I made a few calls and have signed up for a women's only boot camp/kickboxing class, looking forward to kicking my butt in gear. Also , I finally found a place to live for my college years ! I am so excited to move out, have my own space and be independent. The gym is attached to the college so no excuses and the grocery stores aren't far from my house.Getting the keys in July but official move in date will be in August.

ps: I always said I would get my belly button pierced if I lost 25 to 30lbs... well i did !
Another BIG deal ; my 18th birthday is in only 14 days.To mean this means freedom and Independence , yay me :)

After ( 27lbs down )

Crazy week

This week has been crazy !!!  I got accepted to my DREAM college ,started my last semester of high school ( only 4 months until graduation :D ) and .... registered for my first triathlon.
That's right I'm really going to do it ! The triathlon is only August 4th 2012 but my training started yesterday. It's called " Tri-a-thon " so it consists of a 200m swim/20km of cycle/2km run. This is something I had always dreamt of and can not believe is actually going to happen !

A few months ago I would have never actually done this, it's incredible how much strength can come from pushing yourself not only physically but mentally.Pants are getting looser , calf's are starting to get defined , stomach rolls disappearing and feeling healthier then ever ; what a difference 15lbs makes !

Wednesday was my first cycle training (Jan 31st )-biked 10km in 35 minutes so it will take me about an hour for the 20km.Hoping to shave off at least 15 minutes off that before the actual race.Swim training will start this Saturday, my plan is to swim at least once a week but try for twice. In December I ran a 5k on new year's eve in under 45 minutes ,so here's to hoping after swimming and biking the 2k will still be a  breeze.I plan on keeping up with running frequently and just try not to get injured ( I'm a total klutz ,once sprained my ankle while doing a happy dance).

Also , like I mentioned I started the new semester at school  on Monday.Let me just say I'm a little furious about this new rule.NO EATING - in class , in the hallway or anywhere in the school except the cafeteria or atrium. Are you freaking kidding me.......

I eat 5 to 6 small meals a day and now I can bearly drink water ? My homeroom teacher explained that we don't need to eat almost every class , and if I want to eat I need a doctors note.So being stubborn as I am , I booked a doctors appointment on Tuesday. How does the school system expect us to be healthy teenagers when we cant eat in class?.They want us to starve in class and then stuff our faces with what ever food we see because we're so hungry at lunch. This is actually ridiculous , as a Senior I think we are responsible enough to pick up after ourselves. All I can say is ; I cant wait to get out of high school ! These crazy rules are harming young kids lives not helping.

Cooking ahead ...

After hitting the gym and running errands my mom and I cooked up a storm !

Our afternoon cooking session included crab/salmon cakes, pumpkin protein bars, won tongs filled with shrimp and chicken and roasted curried eggplant for dinner.( You can find these recipes in the " Recipes " tab )

The recipe for the pumpkin protein bars are not my own but you can find them  HERE

I love having meals or snacks cooked ahead , as a student Grab 'n Go is a must. After going to school from 8 to 2:30, then having to rush home to pack my gym bag and make dinner for work , to then go to the gym, I really don't feel like cooking.I love just having to open the fridge and knowing fresh , delicious and healthy food is available.

New beginnings

As a new blogger I am so excited to be part of the whole blogging community. I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing, or if my blog will appeal to anyone but I am totally fine with that.

You see normally, I strive to be perfect but in the past 2 months I have realized it’s not about perfect. It’s about doing and giving your best to everything you do. In this case : losing 50 lbs is a goal I know I will achieve because now I have the tools to succeed. It’s not something that will change itself I have to MAKE the change.

A little insight to what I am doing to change from flabby to fit :

-          Exercising at least 4 times a week ( going to the gym, doing Zumba on my Wii , Biggest Loser DVD’s)

-          Drinking 60 to 80 oz of water a day

-          Eating more protein , less carbs

-          Enjoying following weight loss bloggers on their journey’s (so inspiring!)

-          Writing everything I eat in my food journal

-          Only weighing myself once a week , on Mondays J

These little things have made my life so much better , I just have to keep in mind : Strive for change not for perfect ! What kind of lifestyle do you lead ?  What do you do to keep yourself healthy ?
